I found out last night that Renae, the 1st friend I made at the unit, lost her twins. I called her Sunday for her baby shower wish list and she was excited. Then I got a call from Vicki last night saying she had lost them. I don't think she was out of the 1st trimester yet. She had just found out right before the guys left. But she had already had an amnio and new she had a boy and a girl. They had already bought coming home outfits since her husband wouldn't be here. I feel so bad for her. I can't imagine going through that. I had a hard enough time with the did I or didn't I miscarriage deal before I got pregnant with Lauren. I can't imagine having already had sonograms and knowing what the babies were and already having clothes bought. She lives with his parents, so at least she has them until he comes back. Vicki said that we are working with the Red Cross to get her husband home. I don't know if they mean home for good, or just for a little while to be there for her. I know one guy is coming home because his Dad has Lou Gherig's (sp?) disease and isn't expected to make it through the year. I feel so bad for these guys. They are not only going to suffer through what is going on with their families, but also with depression and angst over not being able to go with the guys they have been training with all this time. They will feel guilty too I bet. But these things can't be helped. Their families need them more than the Marines. They would most likely be distracted and distractions cause problems. Serious problems. One guy is being sent back because of a problem with his ankle. He and William have been talking and the guy is very angry. William pointed out to him that if they got in a firefight and he couldn't run, then he could get killed, or the guys trying to help him could get killed, or even all of them could get killed. He said he knew that but he still wanted to go and be with his guys. I truly feel for these guys.
OK, I will add a happier entry in a bit. Sorry for the downer.
